School Readiness Programs
Catholic Charities has been offering full-day, full-year School Readiness programming through the State Department of Education since 1996.
The goal of the School Readiness program is to prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.
School Readiness programming combines a high quality early childhood education experience with comprehensive wrap-around services. These services may include family literacy, well-child screenings, developmental assessments, referrals for additional educational services, parent education/ support programs, referrals to educational opportunities, and family counseling. These services vary by location because they are designed to meet the needs of each local community. Parents are encouraged to participate, and each center offers opportunities and activities to engage families. All centers are handicap accessible and children with special needs are welcome.
Catholic Charities participates in the local School Readiness Provider Networks and School Readiness Councils. Catholic Charities also has formal collaborations with local schools. This allows our staff to facilitate a seamless transition into kindergarten through assisting families to select and enroll in kindergarten programs in their local school district.
School Readiness staff are extremely well qualified and have extensive experience in early childhood and working with children with a variety of special needs, including speech and language delays, ADHD, autism, and special medication needs.
The Connecticut School Readiness program requires that teachers attend regular, annual training, that programs are open 10 hours per day, 50 weeks a year, and that children attend a minimum of 7 hours per day.
There is no income limit to qualify for a School Readiness program. The program operates on a sliding fee scale based on family income. Families wishing to enroll their child in a School Readiness program must reside in the city in which the program is funded.
